"Untitled Camouflaged Tree" - 1997

Painted plywood - 8' x 8' x 8' - Franklin Park, Boston, MA.

This sculpture was commissioned by the Boston Parks Department as part of "Arts in the Park 1997." It was inspired by a much larger work installed in: Deering Oaks Park in Portland, Maine >> in the Summer of 1997. In that work multiple tree symbols were used to show how generic symbols and signs can sometime hide or confuse what they intend to depict or direct. In this work an oversized generic tree symbol painted in tropical jungle camouflage was placed in a 19th century New England park. This artwork was part of the artist's continued investigation of symbols, and their use in contemporary culture.
