This artwork symbolizes the diversity of the Clinton Avenue School in New Haven, CT. The student body is made up of a multiplicity of peoples and personalities yet all are united under the American tree. The figures are further unified by a single color and yet represent a diversity of ideas without reference to race, religion, or culture.
Students, teachers, and passersby will find particular figures that they relate to or that resemble others that they know. Some will relate to the figures psychologically others will find physical similarities. Everyone will find at least one with which they can identify.
