As part of the "Big Dig" Central Artery / Tunnel Project in Boston, Massachusetts a series of panels entitled "Who are You ?" were installed on Atlantic Avenue. The purpose of this artwork was two-fold: to provide pedestrians a visual connection to the construction site; and provide an Artwork with which the public can interact.
The figure/symbols that make up "Who are You?" are not meant to be looked at as objects but rather to be seen in comparison with pedestrians walking by. In making these comparisons one is struck by the similarities and differences of passersby.

The symbol figures present psychological as well as physical comparisons. While I was installing a version of this piece in another location a child passing with her mother remarked" Is that guy with the big head mean he's full of himself?" I have seen people pick the figure they most resemble to peer through and seen others purposefully move to a figure most unlike themselves. Regardless of what comparisons are made passing pedestrians and motorists can draw their own conclusions about the uniqueness of the species as well as its diversity.
