The sculpture is composed of 5 - 8" x 8" stainless steel tubes. From the central axis of the park the uprights coalesce into the form of an up-reaching hand. The sculpture symbolizes the American immigrant experience of striving to climb the ladder of success.
The Artist's many interactions with the Hyde/Jackson Square community helped to inspire the design of the sculpture.

Each upright has engraved quotations written by Hyde Square youth about their exeriences as immigrants or children of recent immigrants.

The Hyde Square Task Force received a grant from Art & Community Landscapes, a program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, which supported the planning, design, and construction of the sculpture.
