Convergence 2000, Providence, Rhode Island

Convergence International Art Festival, 1999
Providence, Rhode Island

For the Convergence International Art Festival symbols of men and women were projected on walls throughout downtown Providence, RI. These figures, based on the international symbols for men and women, were in groups of three. Each triad included the standard boy or girl symbol and two additional figures.

These figures are stylistically similar to the boy or girl symbol, but portray different physiques that can be seen around us. The standard symbols stood in comparison to symbols that more accurately describe the general population. As people moved throughout the city they saw various triads in different locations. As they saw these groupings they were faced with the question, "Who are you?"

The entire Convergence Festival was the vision of Bob Rizzo. His inspiration and confidence in artists and art made the city a more vibrant and exciting place. The festival along with its hundreds of visual and musical events were discontinued with his retirement.
The power of his personality could not be replicated. Bob Rizzo is an excellent artist in his own right, his work can be seen at his web site: bob-rizzo.com .
